THE LAW FIRM SUCCESSFULLY REPRESENTS ONE OF THE LEADING LATVIAN CONSTRUCTION CONTRACTORS IN INTERNATIONAL ARBITRATION
Janis Karklins law firm has successfully represented one of the leading Latvian construction companies in several court proceedings in Latvia and international arbitration at the SCC Arbitration Institute. The representation of the client’s interests was led by Janis Karklins law firm in cooperation with law firm Dālderis & Repšs and Swedish law firm Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton Advokat.
A dispute arose between the law firm’s client (the general contractor) and the employer over the payment of monies and termination of a construction contract in connection with a high-profile construction project in the centre of Riga. As soon as the disagreement with the employer became unresolvable through negotiations, the client turned to the law firm for legal advice.
The law firm’s team led a claim against the employer before the SCC Arbitration Institute in order to recover the money owed to the client, providing representation throughout all of the international arbitration proceedings. At the same time, the law firm’s team was active in Latvian courts to minimise the client’s potential losses by securing the client’s claim.
The international arbitration concluded this week and the law firm’s professional experience, knowledge, diligence, and perseverance culminated in success. On 17 June 2024, the SCC Arbitration Institute delivered an award which successfully recovered more than EUR 14 million for our client from the employer and dismissed more than EUR 8 million of the employer’s claims against the client.
